Parents...DDT essays and posters are due today. We spent all of last week working on the essays and posters and if students did not finish, they were to take those posters/essays home this past weekend to complete. DUE MONDAY-Test grade. Thank you to those students who brought in extra poster boards.
Homework for the week-none
In class, we are working on ELA skills to prepare for EOG's. We will do a few EOG style packets, but not so much as to stress our overwork students. Other skill enhancing activities will be Escape Room activities where students will have to crack codes to proceed to the next level using their literacy skills.
This week in ELA class, students will be working on argumentative essays and creating scientific posters. All work will be done in class and at home; students should be finishing "Frightful's Mountain".
Starting 5/4/18, students will be given the information regarding next week's assignment that will be done in class. (If a student would like to continue working on their essay/poster at home, they may do so.) See the attached document for more information. ASSIGNMENT IS DUE 5-11!!
4-30: In class, students filled out their graphic organizer on pg.70 that used the info from pgs. 69-70. Then on pg. 84 in workbook, read directions for paraphrasing information, fill out , tear out page and then turn in to Schroeder

5/1-5/2-Classwork-students will be completing a webquest for the next 2 days (found in google classroom) that will help the students with their research question that will lead to creating a scientific poster and writing a 5 paragraph essay. More info to come...keep looking at this weebly.
5/3-students will be finishing up their webquests in the media center. I will be presenting them with their performance task on Friday. We will work on this performance task in class as well as prepare the students for their 5 paragraph essay using the collected data from the webquest.
we are analyzing different forms of media to add to students cascading charts that you may find in their workbook. We are also having practice rounds of "fishbowl" discussions. Students viewed 2 different videos giving then pointers on how to actively listen and public speaking. All students took turns either being active listeners or talkers. As we keep adding additional information, we will have another practice on Wed. that will end the week with all students being assessed to their participation in group discussions. The subject matter is still DDT and the effects on nature.

April 9-In class we talked about author's claim and supporting details. We are reading more informational text and linking that with the novel and a video to see how they all relate. Viewed John Stossel's video regarding DDT.
Homework-Read chapter 4, p9 in workbook
April 10-Students had to trace/outline an argument using video from yesterdays lesson. I took a quiz grade and we will review the answers tomorrow in class.

April 11-We read the nonfiction article "Exterminator". Read for understanding, annotate and tag any unfamiliar words. (pgs. 10-13)
Homework-Read chapter 6, complete workbook page that corresponds with that chapter. There will be a quiz on "The Exterminator" on Friday.
. Monday-In class students worked on their consumer guide. We are starting our new module tomorrow, so whatever is not complete will need to be finished at home and DUE WED...April 4. This is a test grade and all directions are in students Google Classroom
Tuesday-New novel (Frightful's Mountain) and module 4 workbooks will be handed out. In class, students were given a reading assignment on falcons to help develop some prior knowledge skills regarding falcons. (Falcons play a big role in the new novel.) Link provided for article below and students are to read/annotate and answer questions.
Wed.- Skills/learning targets focusing on: identifying the relationships of the main character at the beginning of the novel, use context clues to determine unfamiliar words and use details from novel to answer text dependent questions. Homework-read chapter 1 and 2 and complete workbook pages 1 and 2 in workbook.
Th.-Complete page 3 in workbook, Read pg. 4 in workbook, annotate and be prepared to discuss in class.
Fri- class-Made connections between the novel, page 4 from workbook and quote from Rachel Carlson ("In nature, nothing exists alone" ). We reviewed the structure of the text (pg. 4 of workbook)...how each paragraph served a different purpose to get point across. We then read chapter 3 and filled out workbook page 5.
IF TIME ALLOWS-we will then watch a John Stossel video where we will be tracing his argument of specific claims that he makes. We will identify the claim(s) and then trace/outline the evidence in workbook, pgs. 7-8.
There is no homework for the week and all CLASS WORK in in the students Google Classroom. The students will be making a consumer guide and they have received their focus question along with their "task". All work can be found in their workbook as well, starting on page 51.
I am out for the rest of the week to be with my Dad as he has major surgery. If you email me, please understand that it may be Monday, April 2 before I will have a chance to respond.
