Purpose of keeping a journal: I use journal writings as a way to incorporate creative writing in my class. This is a way for students to be able to explore different thoughts/ideas in a non threatening way and to allow for exploration. There is much value in writing every day and it is my hope that by allowing the students to explore their thoughts through writing, it will build confidence in the student as a writer. This is practice and a skill building activity that allows for student's creative juices to flow. It allows me to get to know your child as well as support the development of student thinking. These journals will take on different formats, so parents keep in mind that journal writing will become easier as the year goes on. Please make sure that all directions are being followed.
Journals are graded on a quarterly basis (as a test grade) and need to be done in a timely manner. The students will receive 5-7 minutes in class to "start" and the expectation is to complete the journal at home for homework. DO NOT GET BEHIND...it will be a lot of work in the end if you do. Students will receive a 2 week notice of when all journals are due and this is a firm date set for me, so really, NO LATE JOURNALS WILL BE ACCEPTED due to the time limits and grade timeline set for me.
Lost journal?? As part of being a responsible student, all students MUST keep up with their journals. If one is lost/stolen, they will have to be made up. You will be able to find journals on this page embedded in the weekly messages.
