Mon, 1/22-Took the class period and allowed students to wrap up any loose ends due to being out last week b/c of bad weather. Students had a chance to catch up on homework that was assigned and complete projects.
Tues, 1/23-We are introducing a new module-using the text "World Without Fish". Students received a new workbook and novel that will be used for the next several weeks. They are to come to class with all material. Here is what we will be covering for the next 3 weeks: Students will analyze excerpts of "World Without Fish" for figurative language, connotative language, word and phrase choice, meaning, and plot development. We will also analyze excerpts of "World Without Fish" for evidence of Mark Kurlansky's point of view and how it is conveyed.
Homework-reread the excerpt of the introduction you read today. Use evidence flags(post it notes) to gather evidence as you read and answer the focus questions on your structured notes. (Found in workbook)
Wed., Th., Fri=students have worked very hard in class with this complex text. We have completed the first 4 lessons in their handbooks. In their novels, we have read the intro and pages 1-8 in chapter one. Please review their work in their handbook.
