In Class Today: Students will research ancient African masks. They will go over the rubric for the African mask project and begin research. The project will be due on February 17. Warm Up: None. Tuesday, January 31: Get rubric signed by tomorrow. Study for tomorrow's Africa quiz. In Class Today: Students will review for the quiz and will work on the African mask project. Warm Up: None. Wednesday, February 1: Bring any materials you will need for your Middle Ages research. In Class Today: Students will take the Africa quiz and then begin research on an in-class project for the Middle Ages/Renaissance/Reformation unit. Warm Up: None. Thursday, February 2: Work on mask project. Due 2/17. In Class Today: Students will continue research. Warm Up: None. Friday, February 3: Work on mask project. Due 2/17. In Class Today: Students will finish research and begin creating their presentations. Warm Up: None.

In Class Today: Students will learn about the ancient civilization of Kush. They will read a primary document and do a writing assignment. Warm Up: What are the geographic features of place for ancient Egypt? Tuesday, January 24: Kush paragraph is due tomorrow. In Class Today: Students will learn about the importance of the gold/salt trade in ancient Africa. They will continue working on their Kush paragraph. Warm Up: How might the economy of ancient Africa be impacted by geography? Wednesday, January 25: None. In Class Today: Students will learn about Mansa Musa and his impact on ancient Africa. Warm Up: Picture Analysis activity. Thursday, January 26: Mansa Musa cartoon is due tomorrow. In Class Today: Students will complete a SAS Curriculum Pathways activity on the ancient city of Timbuktu. Warm Up: None. Friday, January 27: No homework. In Class Today: Students will learn about the importance of proverbs and story telling in ancient African culture. They will read a folktale and perform a skit for the class. Warm Up: None.

Tuesday, January 17: Government poster and paragraph assignment is due on Friday. In Class Today: Students will review the types of government we have studied this year and learn about additional forms of government. They will be given a sheet of paper to use to create a mini poster on one of the types of government. They will have some class time to begin the assignment. See the rubric attached to this post. Warm Up: Name a type of government we have studied this year and tell which group of people used this type of government. Wednesday, January 18: Government poster and paragraph is due on Friday. In Class Today: Students will learn about the geography of Africa. They will begin creating a geographic features map. Warm Up: Africa map analysis. Thursday, January 19: Government poster/paragraph is due tomorrow. In Class Today: Students will discuss the effects of human/environmental interaction in Africa. They will continue working on their geographic features maps. Warm Up: What might be the causes of desertification in the Sahara Desert? What would be the effects on the people that live there? How could it be prevented? Friday, January 20: Africa map is due on Tuesday. In Class Today: Students will learn about the ancient civilization of Great Zimbabwe. They will also analyze the effects of the Bantu migrations. Students will spend the remainder of class working on their Africa maps. Warm Up: Picture analysis Saturday, January 21: Africa map is due on Tuesday. In Class Today: Students will be able to work on their Africa maps. Warm Up: None. Thursday, January 12: Bring colored pencils or markers. In Class Today: Students will complete a poster on a cultural achievement from the ancient Middle Eastern world. Warm Up: Arabian trade map analysis. Friday, January 13: No homework (UNLESS you will not be at school on Saturday - see below). In Class Today: Students will finish their cultural achievements posters and share them in class. Warm Up: None Saturday, January 14: No homework (unless you are absent). In Class Today: In collaborative groups, students will complete a triple Venn diagram comparing and contrasting Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Students who are absent must complete this for homework. This assignment must be turned in on Monday if you are not at school on Saturday. Warm Up: None

They will create a poster and write a paragraph about one of the government types. Warm Up: Name a type of government we have studied this year. Describe the government and tell what group of people used that type of government. Tuesday, January 10: Government poster and paragraph is due on Friday. In Class Today: Students will learn about the cultural achievements of ancient Middle Eastern scholars. They will create a poster about one of these achievements. Warm Up: Arabian Trade Map Analysis Wednesday, January 11: Government poster and paragraph is due on Friday. In Class Today: Students will finish their cultural achievements poster. They will complete a gallery walk in which they learn facts from everyone's posters. Warm Up: None. Thursday, January 12: Government poster and paragraph is due tomorrow. In Class Today: Students will review the world religions that we have studied so far this year. They will complete a triple Venn diagram comparing and contrasting the three religions. Warm Up: Cradles of Civilization map activity Friday, January 13: None In Class Today: Students will finish their triple Venn diagrams. Warm Up: Students will read and annotate a primary document about an ancient Middle Eastern hospital. |
