In Class Today: Students will use video sources and primary documents on SAS Curriculum Pathways to analyze how the Mongols were documented throughout history. Warm Up: Chinese dynasties map analysis. Tuesday, May 2: RAFT paper is due on Thursday. In Class Today: Students will continue working on the SAS Mongols activity. Warm Up: None. Wednesday, May 3: RAFT paper is due tomorrow. Be sure to check the bottom of the rubric for turn in procedures. Please staple your work in the following order: rubric on top, then final copy, then rough draft (edited), and the research notes on the bottom. In Class Today: Students will learn about the Silk Road and the impact it had on ancient China. They will pick a Chinese achievement to research and create a mini-poster on it. Warm Up: Silk road reading activity Thursday, May 4: Finish poster. Due tomorrow. In Class Today: Students will finish the Chinese achievement mini-poster. Warm Up: Silk Road review. Friday, May 5: No homework. In Class Today: Students will read a poem from ancient China and analyze what it expresses about the treatment of women of the time. Warm Up: Read and annotate the poem, "Woman."

In Class Today: Students will complete a SAS Curriculum Pathways activity on the Great Wall of China (can be accessed through the WLMS website - QL # is 1340). Warm Up: None. Tuesday, April 25: No homework. In Class Today: Students will complete follow-up activities related to the lab activity and worksheet on the Great Wall of China. They will learn about the Grand Canal and other "Ancient Chinese Wonders." They will discuss the role that citizens played in all of these works. Warm Up: Great Wall Gallery Walk Wednesday, April 26: No homework. *Interim reports will be sent home today for any students that are making a D or an F in Social Studies for fourth quarter. Please return with a signature by Friday.* In Class Today: Students will begin writing a RAFT paper about one of the wonders of ancient China. They will research the topic they have chosen and begin writing the rough draft of the paper. Warm Up: Dynasty map analysis. Thursday, April 27: RAFT paper is due next Thursday, May 4. In Class Today: Students will review the RAFT paper requirements. They will finish their research and work on the rough draft. Students who are ready will have peer writing conferences. In Class Today: Students will learn about the geography of ancient China. They will complete a Cause/Effect chart about the geographic features of China. Warm Up: Group map analysis activity. Wednesday, April 19: Bring art supplies (markers or colored pencils). In Class Today: Students will learn about the role dynasties played in the political system of ancient China. They will learn about the Mandate of Heaven and how this relates to the dynastic cycle. Warm Up: Choose a civilization we have studied this year and describe its political system. Thursday, April 20: Bring art supplies. In Class Today: Students will work on their dynasty posters. Warm Up: How does the Mandate of Heaven relate to the dynastic cycle? Friday, April 21: Bring head phones on Monday. In Class Today: Students will present their dynasty posters and complete the dynasty chart. Warm Up: Group map analysis.
