In Class Today: Students will learn about the social pyramid of ancient Egypt. They will use primary documents and video sources to determine who had the most important job in ancient Egypt. Warm Up: None. Tuesday, August 30: Finish review sheet. Test on Ancient Egypt will be on Friday. Benchmark assessment for first quarter will be on Thursday. *The benchmark assessment will not be graded. This assessment is to see how well students have learned concepts from the first quarter of instruction. Data will be evaluated and used to determine which students need enrichment or remediation on first quarter standards. Remediation and enrichment activities will be provided during Smart Block.* In Class Today: Students will review the many achievements of ancient Egypt. They will review the map of Egypt and work on the review sheet for Friday's test. Warm Up: Copy Egypt's social pyramid into your composition book. Wednesday, August 31: Study for Friday's test on Ancient Egypt. In Class Today: Students will go over the review sheet for the Egypt test. They will create their own cartouche using Egyptian hieroglyphics. Warm Up: None. Thursday, September 1: Study the review sheet for tomorrow's test on ancient Egypt. In Class Today: Students will take the Mesopotamia quiz. They will learn about the physical characteristics of ancient Egypt. Warm Up: None. Tuesday, August 23: No homework. In Class Today: Students will review the geography of ancient Egypt. They will learn about the political system of Egypt and how it revolved around the pharaoh. Warm Up: Students will analyze a quote from the primary document "Hymn to the Nile." Wednesday, August 24: Egyptian "paper doll" is due Tuesday, August 30. *There will be Smart Block sessions on Thursday and Friday for anyone who needs help with the paper doll activity. Students may also sign up in advance for the Monday Smart Block session if they still need help.* In Class Today: Students will learn about the religion practiced in ancient Egypt. They will research an Egyptian god or goddess and create a paper doll. Warm Up: Complete the Egypt map. Thursday, August 25: Paper doll is due on Tuesday. In Class Today: Students will review religion in ancient Egypt and how the role of the pharaoh led to his absolute power. They will learn about the mystery surrounding the death of King Tut. Warm Up: Read "Who was King Tut?" Friday, August 26: Paper doll is due on Tuesday. In Class Today: Students will learn about two famous pharaohs: Ramses the Great and Hatshepsut. Warm Up: Students will analyze a carving on the temple of Ramses the Great.

In Class Today: Students will go over the study guide and continue working on their posters. Warm Up: BC/AD reading Tuesday, August 9: Poster is due tomorrow (Students chose either the Aztec, Inca OR Maya civilization and have created a poster with 5 achievements, including both a picture and a caption for each. The poster should also have a title). In Class Today: Students will take the quiz and then work on their posters. Warm Up: None. Wednesday, August 10: No homework. In Class Today: Students will learn about the geography of Mesopotamia and study how religion, geography and social hierarchy are all connected in this civilization. Warm Up: Civilization analysis. Thursday, August 11: Finish vocabulary activity (for every word we checked in the Mesopotamia list, students should do ONE of the following: write a sentence, draw a picture, write a synonym). In Class Today: Students will go over the vocabulary for the unit. They will learn more about the vocabulary by watching "From Nomads to Farmers." Warm Up: Analyze the lines from the Sumerian hymn. Friday, August 12: No homework. In Class Today: Students will make a list of Sumerian accomplishments. Warm Up: Read "A Father's Complaint" and write a reflection. |
