Tuesday, September 5: Bring any art supplies you need for your project. In Class Today: Students will review the impact of physical features on civilizations. They will begin work on the "Create a Civilization" project. Warm Up: River Valley Civilizations review. Wednesday, September 6: Bring any art supplies you need for your project. In Class Today: Students will continue to work on their "Create a Civilization" project. Warm Up: None. Thursday, September 7: No homework. (Students will be cleaning out their lockers today!) In Class Today: Students will finish their "Create a Civilization" projects and present them to the class. Warm Up: None. Friday, September 8: Track out day! We track back in on October 2nd and will be in the last pod on the sixth grade hall. In Class Today: Students will complete activities related to their study of The Lightning Thief. Warm Up: None.
Monday, August 28: Finish your map of Mesoamerica.
In Class Today: Students will present their pictures notes on the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans. They will label a map with the locations of these groups and the physical features that surrounded these civilizations. Warm Up: Map work. Tuesday, August 29: Work on the Geography Test study guide. It is due at the beginning of class on Wednesday. The test will be on Friday. In Class Today: Students will explore the geography of ancient Africa. They will begin working on the Africa Geographic Features Map. Warm Up: Africa map analysis. Wednesday, August 30: Study guide is due tomorrow. Test is Friday. In Class Today: Students will work on the Africa Geographic Features Map. Warm Up: Desertification analysis. Thursday, August 31: Study for tomorrow's test. Use your study guide as well as any information from pages 9 - 27 in your composition book to help you prepare. In Class Today: Students will go over the study guide and participate in review activities to prepare for tomorrow's test. They will work on the Africa map. Warm Up: None. Friday, September 1: No homework. In Class Today: Students will take the Geography test. They may work on the Africa map after the test is complete. Warm Up: None. In Class Today: Students will watch a National Geographic video about the excavation of Pompeii and the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD. They will participate in group discussion and analysis. Warm Up: Art reflection. *Any student who will miss Monday, August 21 should sign up for Social Studies for Smart Block on Friday, August 25.* Tuesday, August 22: South Asia Geography Envelope is due tomorrow. In Class Today: Students will analyze and label the map of ancient Rome. They will work on the geography envelope. Warm Up: Students will read a primary document about the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Wednesday, August 23: Finish and illustrate your haiku poem. In Class Today: Students will learn about the impact of geography on ancient Japan. They will write their own haiku poem reflecting their knowledge of the geography of ancient Japan. Warm Up: Poetry analysis activity. Thursday, August 24: Finish the Japan Geography worksheet. In Class Today: Students will review the geography of Japan and complete a literacy activity. Warm Up: Poetry gallery walk. Friday, August 25: No homework. In Class Today: Students will learn about how geography impacted the lives of the early native Americans. They will complete a picture notes activity. In Class Today: Students will review China's geography. They will apply literacy and map skills on the China Geography Worksheet. Warm Up: China Cause and Effect activity (in groups). Tuesday, August 15: No homework. In Class Today: Students will analyze maps of ancient South Asia. They will learn about the unique geographic characteristics of this region. They will create a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting the geography of India and China. Warm Up: Label the map of India. Wednesday, August 16: Complete the India/Egypt sheet. In Class Today: Students will learn about the effects of monsoons on India. They will begin working on the South Asia Envelope project. Warm Up: Students will read an article about monsoons. Thursday, August 17: No homework. In Class Today: Students will continue to work on the South Asia envelope. Warm Up: None. Friday, August 18: No homework. In Class Today: Students will learn about how mountains and islands impacted the lives of the ancient Greeks. They will label a map of Greece. Then, they will continue to work on the South Asia envelope. Warm Up: Ancient Greece map analysis.

In Class Today: Students will complete the Mesopotamia Map analysis activity in Google Classroom. They will label the map of Mesopotamia. Warm Up: Why would rivers be a good place for civilizations? Tuesday, August 8: No homework. In Class Today: Students will review the connections between geography and religion in Mesopotamia. They will watch the "Nomad to Farmer" video in Discovery Education. Warm Up: Sumerian Hymn Wednesday, August 9: No homework. In Class Today: Students will learn about Ancient Egypt's geography. Warm Up: Ancient Egypt quote analysis Thursday, August 10: Finish the "Hymn to the Nile." In Class Today: Students will review Egypt's geography and how it led to the development of this civilization. They will learn about primary vs. secondary documents. They will then work collaboratively on the "Hymn to the Nile" activity. Warm Up: Label the map of ancient Egypt. Friday, August 11: No homework. In Class Today: Students will analyze thematic maps of China in groups. They will learn about how geography impacted life in ancient China. They will then label a map of China.
