In Class Today: Students will learn about the ancient Chinese philosophies of Confucianism, Taoism, and Legalism. They will explore the impact that these philosophies had on the political structures of ancient China. Warm Up: Quote analysis. Tuesday, January 30: Work on your Infographic. They will read an excerpt from Pericles' Funeral Oration. Warm Up: Athens/Sparta reading and Venn diagram. Wednesday, January 31: Finish your RAFT paper. In Class Today: Students will review Pericles' Funeral Oration. They will compare this primary document to excerpts from Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. They will write a creative piece about the two speeches. Warm Up: Review Pericles' Funeral Oration. Thursday, February 1: Finish the Hammurabi's Code/Bill of Rights worksheet. In Class Today: Students will learn about Hammurabi's Code and the impact it had on legal systems in ancient Mesopotamia. Warm Up: Quote Analysis. Friday, February 2: Infographic is due on Monday. All work will be graded for a classwork grade tomorrow. In Class Today: Students will complete a lesson on strategic searching with Ms. Jones in the Media Center. In Class Today: Students will explore the dynasty system that existed in ancient China. They will learn about the Mandate of Heaven and the Dynastic Cycle and how they relate to one another. They will explore the political system and achievements of one of the Chinese dynasties. Warm Up: Describe a monarchy. What type of government is it? Give an example. Wednesday, January 24: Get the Political Structures Infographic rubric signed. In Class Today: Students will review what an Infographic is. They will begin research on an ancient political figure. In Class Today: Students will review the types of government we learned about last week. We will have a "refresher course" on the government of the United States, reviewing the levels and branches. Warm Up: What is the type of government that the United States has? What are the three levels and branches of government? Tuesday, January 9: Work on your government poster/paragraph. In Class Today: Students will develop a definition of the term citizen. They will discuss and explore the requirements, rights and responsibilities of citizens. Warm Up: None. Wednesday, January 10: Government poster and paragraph is due tomorrow. In Class Today: Students will research the rights and responsibilities of citizens from one ancient civilization. They will create a poster on this information. Warm Up: Turn and talk activity on Citizenship. Thursday, January 11: No homework. In Class Today: Students will finish their citizenship posters and present them to the class. Groups will complete an activity on the evolution of citizenship.
